Over 1200

Over 1200 is a project which attempts to document the megalithic sites around Ireland, consisting of cairns, passage tombs and dolmens.

There are over 1200 of these sites in Ireland, dating back over 5000 years. Integral to Irish history, it is important to record these locations and to archive their significance.

Some sites are the sacred resting place of our ancestors, the High Kings of Ireland, some have been reconstructed, while many have been left as they were found.

Although certain locations are well-known, others are off the beaten track.

From ancient carvings to chambered tombs, these locations are extraordinary sites which are designed to align with stars and the solstices.
